Cleco provides update after thousands lost power on the Northshore

By Local Stories Full May 26, 2025 | 1:51 PM

Cleco is updating customers after a forced power outage in the area.

“We apologize to our customers who experienced power loss during yesterday’s mandatory service interruption,” said Cahill. “And while we strive to give our customers advance notice of any outages, this emergency situation did not allow us the time to inform our customers ahead of time.”

According to Cleco, around 25,000 customers in Covington, Mandeville, Madisonville, Lacombe and Franklinton were without power for under two hours.

This was due to controlled power outage issued by Midcontinent Independent Reliability System Operator or MISO.

The directive by MISO was issued at 5 p.m. for the outage in order to prevent a more extensive and prolonged power outage.

The power grid is stable and Cleco said they will continue to coordinate with MISO to monitor the system and investigate the cause of the outage and prevent similar incidents in the future.
