Town hall meeting set to address massive Louisiana power outage

By Local Stories Full Jun 1, 2025 | 5:27 AM

A virtual community town hall is set to give Louisiana residents a chance to unpack the widespread power outage that left more than 100,000 people in the dark Sunday, May 25, 2025.

Hosted by the Alliance for Affordable Energy, the event aims to explain what went wrong, who made the decisions and what it will take to keep the lights on in the future. Organizers say it’s also a chance for residents and business owners to ask questions and share their experiences.

The goal is to push for accountability from utilities and regulators like Entergy, Cleco and MISO. Advocates say transparency and long-term solutions are necessary to prevent another massive failure.

The town hall is scheduled for June 2 at 6 p.m. CDT. It’s free to attend, but participants must RSVP online to receive the Zoom link: bit.ly/june2townhall

A special hearing will follow at New Orleans City Council Chambers on June 3 at 10 a.m.
