Louisiana State Police are investigating two separate deadly crashes involving cyclists in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes.
The first crash happened on June 1, around 8:30 p.m. on LA Hwy 57 near Cedar Grove Road in Terrebonne Parish.
According to state police, Jerry Francis, 75, of Houma was riding his bike south on LA Hwy 57 with no lights or reflective material. At the same time, a car was also traveling south.
For reasons still under investigation, the car hit the rear of the bike.
Francis sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
The driver of the car was not injured.
The second crash happened in Larose on June 1, around 10:30 p.m.
According to police, the crash happened on LA Hwy 308 at the intersection with LA Hwy 657.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Jonathan Bourg, 28, of Golden Meadow was driving a motorized bike north on LA Hwy 308, approaching the intersection.
At the same time, a car was traveling east on LA Hwy 657.
Police said Bourg traveled through a red light, entered the intersection, and was hit by the car.
Bourg sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
The driver of the car was not injured.
Both crashes are under investigation.
